The Routeburn Track is one of New Zealand’s most iconic Great Walks — 32km through the Mount Aspiring and Fiordland National Parks, crossing the stunning Harris Saddle with views that stop you in your tracks. We’re doing it in February 2027, just days after our Milford group finishes.
This is a difficulty 4–5 event. Three days, two nights in DOC huts, with significant elevation gain. You need solid fitness and experience with multi-day tramping. February gives us the best weather window but the Southern Alps always have surprises — come prepared.
We currently have 9 members attending with 6 spots remaining before we hit the 15-person maximum. Hut bookings open shortly — I’ll update this thread the moment they do.
What you need to sort:
Your own hut booking through DOC (link posted here when bookings open)
Transport to the Routeburn Shelter and return from The Divide
Gear appropriate for alpine conditions
Routeburn Track trail page: https://wakahi.com/routeburn-track
Comprehensive hiking guides for all Great Walks: https://wakahi.com/wakahi-guides

The Routeburn is shorter than Milford but the alpine sections are more exposed. Has anyone done both back to back? I’d love to hear how you found the transition.
