The Kepler Track is a 60km circular route starting and finishing in Te Anau — one of New Zealand’s most accessible Great Walks but don’t let that fool you. The ridge walk between Luxmore Hut and Iris Burn takes you above the bushline with sweeping views over Lake Te Anau and the Fiordland wilderness. We’re doing it in February 2027 as the first of our four Great Walks events that month.
This is a difficulty 4–5 event. Three days, two nights in DOC huts, with significant elevation on day one. February conditions are generally the most stable of the year but Fiordland weather can turn quickly — experience and proper gear are essential.
We currently have 4 members attending with 11 spots remaining before we hit the 15-person maximum. Hut bookings open shortly — I’ll update this thread the moment they do.
What you need to sort:
Your own hut booking through DOC (link posted here when bookings open)
Transport to Te Anau — the track starts right from town

I did the Kepler last November — happy to answer any questions about conditions, hut comfort, or what to expect on the ridge. Have you done the Kepler before? What was your highlight?
